educate,. Honduras
The Youth Center of Trinidad (Honduras) was opened in November 2022 when they had a wonderful ceremony for the inauguration. At the inauguration representatives from the local municipality and the National Library Network of Honduras were present, and two of educates.’s scholars – Robin Ariel and Cleverson Daniel – shared their experiences in the scholarship programme, while a third – Nely Mahely – read aloud a poem. After the programme ended, teachers in the audience got up to speak about the impact that educate.‘s school-based libraries have had for them and their students. For this project, Students for Children funded the building of the library section.
Children helped to clean the space, organise over 2500 books and paint murals across the walls both inside and outside with the help of local artists. The Youth Center was built to bring scholars together for weekly trainings and activities. Through this new center they plan to provide a space for scholars and other young people to gather for educational workshops, leadership and entrepreneurship programmes, community engagement activities, and peer-to-peer mentorship and tutoring. Now open six days a week to the public, the Youth Center is a place where anyone from Trinidad or the surrounding areas can come and use the space and take out books. This amazing place makes it possible for children in Trinidad to learn, read, study and gather together. Children can do their homework, express their creativity, use the facility’s computers and develop their social skills.
This space will open up super exciting opportunities, from literacy activities to computer science and coding classes and workshops about art, theatre, the environment, and so much more in the future.
